Sell a Car Without a Title in Eustis, FL

A missing title stalls more junk car sales in Lake County than anything else. In Florida the fix is usually one form and one trip to the Tax Collector, and for an old enough car there is a route that needs no title at all.

Why No Title Is Usually Not the End of It

Florida has two ways through this, and which one applies depends on the car. If the car is titled in your name and the paper is lost or torn, you apply for a duplicate on HSMV form 82101 at a Lake County Tax Collector office, pay the fee, and you've got a title to sign over. If your title only ever existed electronically, skip the duplicate and ask the Tax Collector to print it.

If the car is at least ten model years old and worth under $1,000, Florida lets the owner skip the title entirely with HSMV form 82137, the Derelict Motor Vehicle Certificate. The form goes to a licensed salvage dealer or a registered secondary metals recycler along with the car, and the title is cancelled for good. That car can never be registered again, which is exactly right for a vehicle that is going to be parts and scrap anyway.

Where it gets slower is a lender still on the title, an owner who has died, or a title from another state. None of those are dead ends, but each has its own paperwork, and we'd rather tell you on the phone what the Tax Collector will ask for than have the driver find out in your driveway.

Proud to Serve Lake County

The same Florida rules apply wherever the car sits, whether that is a lake lot in Grand Island, a carport in Tavares or a forest-edge driveway in Paisley.

What's Included

Lost Paper Title

The most common case. HSMV 82101 at any Lake County Tax Collector office gets you a duplicate. Bring ID and the plate or VIN, and tell us when you have it in hand so the pickup can be booked.

Electronic Title

Florida has issued titles electronically for years, so plenty of owners never had paper. You don't need a duplicate. You ask for the title to be printed, and then it can be signed over like any other.

Older Car, No Title at All

Ten model years or older and worth under $1,000 means HSMV 82137 can cancel the title and let us take the car as a derelict vehicle. The car is finished as a registered vehicle after that, which is the point.

Lender on the Title

If a loan was ever recorded, the lien has to be released before a duplicate can be issued, and only the lienholder can request it. Call the lender first, then us.

Out-of-State Title

A car still titled in Georgia or Ohio can be sold on that title if you have it. If it is lost, the replacement comes from that state, not Florida. Tell us which state and we will say whether it is worth the wait.

What the Driver Checks

Your ID against the name on the title or the form, the VIN on the dash against the paperwork, and a signature on the bill of sale. That's all of it, and it takes a few minutes.

Why Sellers Pick Us

The Phone Price Holds

Describe the car honestly and the figure we give you on the call is what the driver pays on Bay Street or in Umatilla. We don't go discovering new problems once you've already moved your good car out of the way.

Free Tow, All of North Lake

No charge for the truck anywhere from Astor to Howey-in-the-Hills, including cars with no keys or with the wheels sunk in sand. The cost of the tow never comes out of your money.

Lake Water Is Not a Dealbreaker

Cars that flooded when the Harris Chain came up and trucks that sat two summers in a wet pasture are ordinary jobs for us. So is one somebody already stripped for parts.

Title Trouble, Handled

Lost the paper title, or never had one printed? Maybe the car is old enough for a derelict certificate. We tell you which form the Lake County Tax Collector needs, and asking costs you nothing.

Not Sure Where Your Title Stands?

Walk us through it on the phone. You get a straight answer on whether it can work before we book a truck.

How It Works

1. Tell Us What You Have

Lost, electronic, lien, out-of-state, or nothing at all, plus the car's age and rough value. We tell you which route fits.

2. Get the Paper Sorted

A duplicate from the Tax Collector, a printed e-title, or the 82137 form filled out for the derelict route. We explain exactly what to bring.

3. Book the Truck

Once the paperwork is lined up we schedule the pickup. Same-day is common in Eustis and the towns next to it.

4. Sign and Get Paid

The driver checks ID and VIN, you sign, you get paid, and the car leaves. Keep your plate and cancel the insurance.

Selling a Junk Car With No Title: Common Questions

Where is the nearest Lake County Tax Collector office?

The Tax Collector has several Lake County branches. Check which one is open the day you plan to go, since hours vary by office.

Can I sell a car that is not in my name?

Not without the owner's signature or the right estate or power-of-attorney paperwork. If it was left on your property by someone else, that is a different legal process and usually not something we can buy.

Does the derelict route cost anything?

The 82137 form is filled out by the owner and delivered with the car. We handle it at pickup. Confirm current fees with FLHSMV, since those are set by the state.

Will a missing title lower my price?

No. Once the paperwork route is settled, the car is priced on its weight and parts like any other.
